Aakash 2 | Ubislate 7 Tablet Review

Many of my readers have asked me write a review on Aakash 2 aka Ubislate 7 as there are many queries and confusions in the market regarding this tablet. First of all, Aakash 2 is the successor of Aakash Tablet. Aakash 2 is also known as Ubislate 7, so please don’t get confused.

Second and the most important thing is that Aakash 2 aka Ubislate 7 is a phone. It’s not just restricted to browsing, as its SIM functionality also extends to voice calls. The SIM functionality is surely going to appeal a lot of Aakash fans. Some of the buyers who have already invested in the Aakash might regret as an updated device is coming within few weeks that too with a marginal price hike. It would have been really thoughtful if DataWind would have launched the UbiSlate 7 as the original Aakash and won many more accolades.

Aakash 2 or Ubislate 7 tablet review

Let us take a look at the specifications of Ubislate 7:

It comes with following accessories:

  • Car charger

Now lets discuss these features in detail

Connectivity:

UbiSlate 7 supports both GPRS and Wi-Fi. The added feature of GPRS connectivity enables you to insert sim cards on your tab and use it as a mobile phone. It also has support for optional 3G modems. I would like to warn you here that the GPRS connectivity is very slow and the browsing experience without WiFi will be poor.

Two full-sized USB ports are integrated into the unit allowing pen-drives, external keyboards, web-cams and dongles. It allows you to connect normal memory cards and pendrives in the USB Port so you would be happy to use this Tablet cum Phone as a PC or Laptop. You would be glad to know that you can connect extra USB keyboard making typing much more easier.

Microprocessor & Operating System:

Ubislate 7 runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is powered by a better Cortex A8 – 700 MHz processor. It supports Adobe flash player which ensures high quality and fully functional internet browsing. The HD video Co-processor enables you to stream/play full HD 1080p videos. UbiSlate provides access to the Android Market to download other apps from MarketPlace.

Memory:

It consists of 2 GB on board memory. It allows you to store lots of stuff in external memory which can be expanded up to 32GB.

Battery life:

Battery life was one of the several drawbacks of Aakash Tablet. The UbiSlate 7 has successfully overcome its predecessor as it comes with a 3,200 mAh battery which gives a good performance.

Extra Features:

Ubislate 7 comes with inbuilt speakers and integrated mic. Ubislate supports document formats: DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP, and can also run a PDF viewer and text editor.

To conclude I would say that its worth buying if you want to enjoy a full loaded Tablet with GPRS Functionality on such a meager price.

hi,
i recently visited a shop, (where prebooking of ubislate 7+ is being held), but as u have mentioned that ubislate 7+ has a front facing VGA camera, the shop owner n vendor said that it has got no cameras at all, provided you can connect an external webcam…kindly let me know the exact truth of it,
thanks.

Admin March 2, 2012 at 6:08 pm

Hi Aditya, that was a mistake I just checked this on the official site of Ubislate and they say that “No cameras are pre-installed in any device (Ubislate or Ubislate 7)”.

Devang March 5, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Hi,
In Ubislate, can i browse all web sites?? i mean does it open Youtube etc. all??
Thnx….

Admin March 8, 2012 at 11:01 am

Hi Devang,
I don’t see any reason why in Ubislate 7 you cannot open Youtube. If you are talking about video streaming and speed then that’s a question your internet provider needs to answer.

Chaitanya, accessing internet via WiFi is quiet fast as compared to GPRS. But then WiFi also has its own limitations like range and cost factors.
