Have you ever thought about your Facebook profile picture? I mean you may feel it is cool and nice, but have you ever thought what others can interpret by seeing them? Well if you are saying “NO” then this post is a must read for you.
As you all know that a picture is worth a thousand words, so your profile picture can tell many things about you and your personality. Consider a situation if you are going for an interview and your recruiter just being curious of your social image check your Facebook profile, where you have a photo dressed up in a funny avatar looking no less than a comedian. Although a funny profile picture may pull out some giggles but then your recruiter would not like such a public image of his employee. So, the bottom line is always think before choosing a profile picture.
In this post I will be interpreting few common types of photos that people use as their profile pictures, so that you can get an idea what others think when they see your Facebook profile picture.
Having a default Facebook profile picture:
Having a default Facebook image as your profile picture means that you are lazy and quiet careless of your social image. People may also interpret that you are old enough to use a social network. Please ensure that after creating Facebook account you at least change the default Facebook pic.
Having a Portrait profile picture:
A portrait is a picture where in the subject is visible from head to waist with a clear face. This kind of a profile picture depicts that you are full of confidence and responsible. For fun loving people this is a pretty straight forward pose so they consider the person in the picture to be boring.
Having your childhood photo as your profile picture:
Having your childhood photo as your profile picture on Facebook can be interpreted as you being a person who thinks everything in past was better than it is now. You still remember your old days and try to do things as you did them in the past.
Having a far and away profile picture:
A far and away picture is a pic which is shot from a distance, the subject is completely visible but you cannot see any details of the subject. Having such an image as your profile picture means that you are slightly shy and reserved kind of a person. This can also be a sign of low self confidence.
Having a close-up or impersonal photo:
This type of picture is generally shot from a close distance with only a part of subjects face in the frame. If you have a close-up and impersonal image as your Facebook profile picture then this means that you want people to think that you don’t want to be recognized on Facebook, but you really do and mask that in pseudo artiness.
Having a wedding photo as your profile picture:
Many people have wedding pictures as their Facebook profile pic. These people try to shout out that they are married now so that everyone should think they are grownups. It is not a good idea to have your wedding pic as your Facebook profile image.
Having a cartoon or celebrity images as your Facebook profile picture:
This can be interpreted as you don’t have any personality of your own you want to imitate the personality of the person in your profile picture. This can be a sign of low self esteem and inferiority complex.
Having a Partying picture:
This can be interpreted as you are young, fearless and full of energy. But don’t get so excited it also means that you are foolish and will be fired from your job if your employer visits your Facebook account
If you have any other Facebook profile picture types then, please share them in the comments section I will be more than happy to interpret them.
